Lucas de Melo, Ph.D., P.E., a geotechnical engineer based in Geosyntec's Columbia, Maryland office, has been appointed adjunct professor in the Civil Engineering Department of The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. His initial assignments beginning July 2012 include teaching geotechnical engineering classes and aiding the Department in redesigning/renovating the Undergraduate Soils Laboratory.
Dr. de Melo will continue to contribute to Geosyntec projects as he has since joining the firm in 2007. He earned his M.S. and Ph.D. in civil engineering from Johns Hopkins in 1998 and 1999, respectively. Additionally, he earned his M.S. in geotechnical engineering from Pontificia Universidade Católica in Rio de Janeiro and his B.S. in civil engineering from Universidade Federal do Ceará in Fortaleza, Brazil, in 1993.
