SiREM Technologies Featured at Clemson Hydrogeology Symposium

SiREM technologies will be featured in two platform presentations at the annual Clemson Hydrogeology Symposium at Clemson University in South Carolina on April 6, 2017.

Sandra Dworatzek, a Senior Manager at SiREM, a division of Geosyntec, will present "Laboratory Testing in Support of Monitored Natural Attenuation of Chlorinated Solvents." The talk presents Gene-Trac qPCR testing and next-generation sequencing for microbial community characterization along with magnetic susceptibility, X-ray diffraction for iron mineral speciation, and other leading-edge analyses offered under SiREM's natural attenuation parameter testing suite (SiREMNA™) to better understand remediation processes at natural attenuation sites.

Rob Workman, a Senior Geologist with CRB Geological & Environmental Services in Greenville, South Carolina, and Clemson alumnus, will present "Reductive Dechlorination: Progressing Past Co-Contaminant Inhibition" which includes a case study of a site in eastern Kansas that was bioaugmented with KB-1® and KB-1® Plus cultures. The results indicate that complex contaminant mixtures are not necessarily a barrier to effective remediation if the appropriate beneficial microbes are introduced through bioaugmentation.

The Clemson Hydrogeology Symposium is hosted by the Department of Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences, and features presentations by leading academics and technology providers. This year's symposium includes sessions on remediation, natural attenuation, site characterization, phytoremediation, modelling, among others.
