Andrea Braga and David Roman to Participate in EBC Program on the Impact of Climate Change on Stormwater Management

Andrea Braga and David Roman (Massachusetts) will chair, moderate, and give a presentation at an event sponsored by the Environmental Business Council of New England's (EBC's) Water Resources Committee entitled, "Impact of Climate Change on Stormwater Management - Shaping a Path Toward Resiliency" at the law offices of Greenberg Traurig in Boston from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on October 26, 2017.

Andrea will be acting as Program Chair and moderate the event and David will be giving a presentation entitled "Tools for Flood Risk Management and Increased Resiliency Through Intelligent Infrastructure Control."

This EBC Water Resources Program will examine how climate change is affecting programs for stormwater management. In light of recent historical rainfall events like Hurricane Harvey, which dropped about four feet of rain in southeast Texas and southwest Louisiana, discussions about how to manage stormwater from extreme events have become even more important. Local leaders will discuss the programs and projects they are planning and implementing that are aimed at addressing stormwater management issues, with a focus on sustainable and resilient solutions in the wake of our changing climate.

Andrea and David will be joined by presenters Vandana Rao, Ph.D., Acting Director of Water Policy for the Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs, and Charlie Jewell, Director of Planning at the Boston Water and Sewer Commission.

Vandana will present an overview of why climate change is important to consider for stormwater management and will provide an update on what state programs are being implemented for improving resiliency to climate change. Charlie will discuss how the Commission is addressing climate change in Boston's stormwater system, and David will provide an overview of some tools available for adaptive management of stormwater infrastructure, highlighting a few projects where innovative real-time controls have been used to retrofit existing infrastructure for increased resiliency.

The EBC is a nonprofit organization established in 1990 by environmental and energy company executives who began meeting on a regular basis to exchange ideas and share experiences. The EBC was the first organization in the United States established to support and foster the development of the environmental industry. Their goal is to enhance business and job growth of both established and emerging environmental and energy businesses.
