Amanda Hughes, Ph.D. (Illinois) will participate in the National Academy of Engineering’s (NAE) 24th annual U.S. Frontiers of Engineering (USFOE) symposium at the MIT Lincoln Laboratory in Lexington, Massachusetts, September 5-7, 2018.
Eighty-four of the brightest young engineers in the United States were selected to take part in the symposium. The symposium will cover cutting-edge developments in Quantum Computing, Technology for Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief, Resilient and Reliable Infrastructure, and Theranostics. Engineers ages 30 to 45 who are performing exceptional engineering research and technical work in a variety of disciplines were invited to the event. Amanda was nominated to attend the event by Mike Kavanaugh, a member of the NAE.
Amanda is a Project Engineer based in Illinois with more than seven years of experience focused on remediation consulting services, and expert witness and litigation support to industrial clients and law firms across the country. She is an expert in polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) forensics, fate and transport. Her experience includes investigations of historic PCB use at large industrial sites, critical reviews of fate, transport and bioaccumulation models, and forensic analyses at high profile sites. Amanda is well-versed in data analysis and visualization. She has performed related remediation work for landfills, a former manufactured gas plant, gas transmission facilities, a glass manufacturing factory, and multiple Superfund sites with contaminated sediment.
