Lelio Mejia, Ph.D., P.E., G.E. (California) was recently honored by the University of California, Berkeley Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE). He was inducted into the Academy of Distinguished Alumni's Class of 2018 at an awards banquet held at the University Club of the California Memorial Stadium on the Berkeley campus.
Lelio is a Senior Principal Engineer based in Oakland, California with more than 35 years of experience in geotechnical and earthquake engineering. For many years, he has focused on the challenges of dam and levee engineering and is a leading international authority in this field, with emphasis on the seismic design and performance of dam structures. Lelio leads Geosyntec's Western U.S. dams and levees practice and is a registered civil and geotechnical engineer.
The objectives of the Academy are to honor the outstanding professional accomplishments and contributions of CEE alumni, including service to the CEE Department; engage outstanding alumni in the activities of the Department; increase the visibility of the Department to all alumni; present Academy members to students as examples of successful CEE graduates and possible role models for the students' own careers; and further enhance the stature of the Cal CEE Department by shining a light on the many great accomplishments of its graduates.
