SANTA BARBARA, Ca. — Lilian Abreu, PhD, a senior staff engineer based in Geosyntec's Santa Barbara office, will be speaking at the National Forum on Vapor Intrusion, sponsored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The forum, to be held at the Loews Philadelphia Hotel, is scheduled for January 12 — 13, 2009.
Lilian's presentation, entitled "Vapor Intrusion Conceptual Site Model," will address the ways that vapor travels in the subsurface, seeping into buildings. Using the Abreu and Johnson 3D model (a customized method), she will show simulations for a variety of conceptual site scenarios. Lilian's presentation is designed to provide a theoretical understanding of the vapor intrusion process and to illustrate how different site conditions could influence the distribution of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the subsurface as well as the indoor air of structures in the vicinity of a soil or groundwater contaminant source.
