Jim Linton and Herwig Goldemund Presented on Phytoremediation at Southeastern Utility

Jim Linton (Florida) and Herwig Goldemund, Ph.D. (Georgia) presented on phytoremediation and the TreeWell technology to a group of technical experts at Southeastern Utility on August 20, 2019.

Jim is a Principal Environmental Scientist based in Florida with more than 30 years of experience focused on site assessment and remediation. He specializes in innovative contaminated site investigations, remedial strategy development, biological population studies, wetland restoration, phytoremediation, and regulatory compliance. Jim has developed feasibility studies and innovative remediation solutions for manufacturing facilities in the pesticide, electronics, and aerospace industries.

Herwig has more than 19 years of academic and professional experience as an Environmental Scientist and Project Manager. He is focused on soil and groundwater geochemistry, site assessment, and remediation under  the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), and state-led regulatory programs, with emphasis on issues related to contaminant fate and transport (specializing in trace elements and inorganics), contaminant sequestration, bioavailability and uptake, and the use of passive remediation technologies such as phytotechnologies, constructed wetlands, and natural attenuation.

As Geosyntec's utility sector clients go through the process of evaluating and selecting groundwater remedial technologies following the closure of their coal combustion residuals (CCR) basins, the TreeWell technology is receiving renewed attention given its ability to access deeper groundwater and to provide hydraulic control for a variety of inorganic constituents typically found at CCR sites. Geosyntec has a preferred teaming arrangement with Applied Natural Sciences, Inc. (ANS), who invented and patented this technology, and we are working with ANS at a number of sites ranging from manufacturing facilities to landfills and including a variety of organic and inorganic contaminants.
