Brandon Raymond, P.E. (Massachusetts) has been selected to present to the American Shore and Beach Preservation Association's (ASBPA's) 2019 National Coastal Conference to be held at the Sheraton Myrtle Beach Convention Center Hotel in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on October 22-25, 2019. The theme of the conference is "Where Coasts and Rivers Meet."
Brandon is a Project Engineer based in Massachusetts focused on modeling, designing, and constructing coastal engineering and sediment remediation projects. His other experience includes analysis of coastal processes, including wave transformation, beach morphology and nearshore circulation; design of both hard and soft shore protection projects; and modeling of hydrodynamics, waves, and sediment transport in river and estuarine systems.
The ASBPA is dedicated to preserving, protecting, and enhancing our coasts by merging science and public policy. They advocate for healthy, sustainable, and resilient coastal systems to sustain four inter-connected core values provided by shores and beaches: community protection, a strong economy, ecological health, and recreation.
Brandon will be discussing a riverbank stabilization design project in Massachusetts where a 500-linear-foot stretch of shoreline in a tidal portion of the Merrimack River has suffered significant bank erosion. This erosion is threatening not only the stormwater outfall for the parking garage of a regional transitory authority but potentially the parking garage itself. The primary challenge to design and construction of the final remedy will be adjacent critical spawning habitat of the shortnose sturgeon.
