Julie Konzuk (Ontario) and Drew Raw (Maryland) will present to the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) International Committee.
Their presentation is entitled "Challenges Related to Remediation of Military Sites Impacted by Munitions and Emerging Contaminants." The presentation will share experience regarding common contaminants and environmental release mechanisms at military sites, specific hazards and planning needs for military site investigation and remediation, other investigation considerations, and remediation techniques.
Julie is a Principal Engineer with 18 years of experience in the development and application of innovative investigation and remediation techniques for sites contaminated with propulsion energetics (perchlorate), explosives (RDX, HMX, TNT, DNT), chlorinated solvents, and emerging contaminants in soil, groundwater, surface water and sediment. Having managed large projects involving the detection, discrimination, removal and/or demilitarization of munitions constituents and munitions debris, she is highly familiar with the challenges related to safe remediation of military sites impacted by munitions and emerging contaminants.
Drew Raw is a Senior Consultant with over 35 years of experience in the Defense sector. Most recently having responsibility for the UK interests at a vital US Communications base in the UK for over 6 years, and subsequently being seconded to AFCEC to act as liaison and manage the MILCON program at that base for 3 years, he has managed significant programs and ensured compliance at major installations around the world. Consequently, he is familiar with many of the challenges facing the DoD around the globe.
