Course Description:

Passive sampling is quickly becoming the primary approach for measuring the availability of hydrophobic organic compounds in sediments, and is being applied to questions regarding risk, fate, and remedy effectiveness at a variety of contaminated sediment sites.

The goal of this course is to provide consultants, regulators, and stakeholders with the basic tools and concepts they need to apply passive samplers in the decision making process at sediment sites.

Practical topics of the course include:
• Technical Introduction to Passive Sampling
• Decision-making Applications
• Logistics (Preparation/Procurement, Deployment, and Chemical Analysis)
• Data Analysis and Communication
• Regulatory and Policy Perspectives
• Research Frontiers
