In accordance with the current Indonesian Seismic Code (SNI-1726-2002) and several international codes, site-specific site response analysis is required for liquefiable sites.However, the codes are not specific with respect to what constitutes " liquefiable site. " In this paper, an attempt was made to define a " liquefiable site " through use of well-known Ishihara (1985) charts. The procedure is illustrated on a case history of high-rise building in Jakarta, for which the Ishihara charts indicates that the impact of soil liquefaction is such that site response analysis is required. The total-and effective-stress site response analyses were performed using SHAKE2000 and D-MOD2000, respectively. The results of the analyses were compared to the results of the latest iteration of the commonly-used Seed and Idriss (1971) simplified procedure. The design acceleration spectra, evaluated in a site-specific site response analysis, are compared to the code-mandated spectra.
