American Electric Power Selects Geosyntec for New Landfill Design
CHICAGO, Il. — American Electric Power (AEP) selected Geosyntec Consultants to provide investigation, engineering, design, and permitting services for a new residual waste landfill in Ohio.
The contract includes evaluating two sites using a value engineering approach to choose a final location for the landfill. The two sites have challenges that will need to be addressed, such as: avoiding or mitigating underground coal mines and oil wells; managing mine spoil areas; and handling pre-existing ash disposal areas, steep subgrade slopes, as well as very soft subgrades.
The value engineering team will include professionals from Geosyntec and AEP. Following the completion of the value engineering phase, Geosyntec will complete a comprehensive site investigation, engineering design, and permit applications. The project is expected to be completed in a year. Total fees are estimated at more than $1 million.
"We are excited for this project opportunity," said Geosyntec project manager John Seymour, PE. "Winning this contract was made possible because of our previous successful performance on similar sites for AEP. This is the latest example of the trust that AEP places in Geosyntec to design and complete such projects. We are looking forward to continuing our relationship with AEP."
