Geosyntec Announces the Appointment of Four New Associates
ATLANTA, Ga. — Geosyntec is pleased to announce the promotion of four Senior Professionals to the position of Associate — Peter de Haven, PE; Beth Gross, PhD, PE; Michaye McMaster; and Elaina Modlin, PE.
Peter de Haven, PE, joined Geosyntec in 1997 in the Atlanta office. As a project manager and technical team leader he has focused on site characterization, data management and analysis, numerical modeling, and both the conceptual and final design of engineered remediation measures for sites with contaminated soil, sediment, and groundwater. Pete has also conducted a broad range of surface and subsurface investigations, geophysical surveys, remediation system pilot testing, and numerical and analytical ground-water modeling, serving projects and facilities in the U.S and the United Kingdom. He has addressed investigative and remedial administrative orders under CERCLA, as well as executing and managing projects under RCRA, state-regulated, and non-regulatory frameworks. Pete specializes in application of databases, geographic information systems (GIS), three-dimensional visualization packages, and finite-difference and finite-element modeling applications in his project work and he has lectured extensively and taught short courses on these topics. Prior to joining Geosyntec, Pete earned his Master's degree in civil engineering (environmental fluid mechanics and hydrology) from Stanford University and his Bachelor's degree in civil-environmental engineering (magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa) from Princeton University.
Beth Gross, PhD, PE, joined the firm in 1987 and has served as a project director and project manager for projects involving siting, design, permitting, and construction of municipal, industrial, hazardous, and low-level radioactive waste landfills and industrial impoundments for public and private sector waste management clients. As a nationally recognized expert in the waste management field, she also advises clients on the design, monitoring, construction, and performance of double-liner systems and evapotranspirative covers. Beth has also worked extensively with the electrical utility industry on disposal issues related to coal combustion wastes and flue gas desulfurization sludges. Throughout her career Beth has been active in applied R&D. She has authored technical support and guidance documents for the U.S. EPA on liner systems and cover systems and for the U.S. Navy on vertical subsurface barrier systems. She is the author or coauthor of more than 50 peer-reviewed publications and invited presentations on slope stability, landfill liner systems, evapotranspirative cover systems, and subsurface barrier systems. Beth earned her Doctoral degree in geotechnical engineering from the University of Texas at Austin and both her Master's degree in geotechnical engineering and her Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Florida in Gainesville. Based in Geosyntec's Austin office, she is a registered civil engineer in Texas and nine other states.
Michaye McMaster joined the firm in 1998 in the Guelph, Ontario office. Initially, she was a key field team member for the first pilot-scale groundwater re-circulation system where the bioaugmentation culture KB-1 was applied as an in situ remedy to treat groundwater impacted by chlorinated solvents. Subsequent successes with this technology has led to growth in the firm's bioaugmentation practice and resulted in more than 100 applications of KB-1 worldwide. Michaye has served as project director, project manager, or team leader for numerous groundwater investigations, DNAPL source zone delineations, and remediation programs involving monitored natural attenuation (MNA) and enhanced in situ bioremediation (EISB) for chlorinated solvents and other recalcitrant compounds in groundwater. Michaye has experience at active industrial facilities, Superfund sites, and major industrial Brownfields sites. She brings extensive expertise to the firm in developing innovative solutions for complex groundwater remediation problems, including remediation of DNAPL source zones and bioremediation applications in fractured bedrock. Additionally, Michaye has provided review/advice to the Air Force Center for Environmental Excellence (AFCEE) on their Edible Oil Technical Protocol and to the USGS on bioaugmentation approaches for wetlands and seeps for projects at Aberdeen Proving Ground. She is the author of numerous publications and presentations on bioremediation, bioaugmentation, and groundwater remediation. Michaye earned both her Master's degree in earth science (hydrogeology option) and her Bachelor's degree in biology from the University of Waterloo.
Elaina Modlin, PE, joined Geosyntec in 1999 in the Boca Raton office. Her practice focuses on the development and implementation of compliance programs, along with due diligence services associated with the transfer of real property and business assets. Currently she is Geosyntec's program manager for due diligence and remediation services for several major Geosyntec clients with extensive real estate holdings with potential environmental impairment. She is also project manager for the permitting of a major bio-ethanol plant in Florida. Elaina brings extensive expertise to the firm in the areas of compliance program development and auditing, environmental permitting, environmental management, site investigation and remediation, due diligence, and NEPA services. Prior to joining Geosyntec, Elaina managed numerous environmental due diligence projects for a wide variety of sites and developed general and facility-specific programs for a number of industries, including programs required under the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, Toxic Substances Control Act, and the National Environmental Policy Act. Elaina also is the primary author of several guidance documents used by John F. Kennedy Space Center's RCRA Corrective Action Program contractors, including the Decision Process Document, Environmental Settings Reference Manual, Sampling and Analysis Plan, and Health and Safety Reference Manual. She earned her Bachelor's degree in civil engineering (with honors) from the University of Florida in Gainesviile. Elaina is a registered civil engineer in Florida.
