John Seymour to Teach a Short Course for ACAA Workshop
John Seymour (Illinois) will teach a short course entitled "Geotechnical Considerations in Surface Impoundment Management and Closure" at the American Coal Ash Association (ACAA) and University of Kentucky Center for Applied Energy Research (CAER) Midwest Workshop on Current Issues in Ponded CCPs at the Radisson Hotel Cincinnati Riverfront in Covington, Kentucky on November 2, 2016.
About the Workshop
A similar workshop about issues in ponded coal combustion products (CCPs) was held in Tampa, Florida in February 2016. Prior to that, the first Ash Utilization Workshop was held in 2012 and the second in 2014. According to ACAA Executive Director Thomas Adams, "the response of the attendees at these events convinced us that we needed to offer a similar program again. The World of Coal Ash (WOCA), the flagship event for our industry, is held every other year. Some people that were not able to attend WOCA to get this information did not want to wait for the next WOCA. To serve that demand, CAER and ACAA responded with this event. The workshop has a less formal structure than is possible at WOCA, allowing for an examination of issues between speakers and attendees. It also provides the very latest updates on CCP recycling".
About the ACAA
The American Coal Ash Association's stated mission is to advance the management and use of coal combustion products in ways that are environmentally responsible, technically sound, commercially competitive, and supportive of a sustainable global community.
They achieve this by hosting workshops, symposia and many other industry gatherings to promote understanding and facilitate connections. They also publish a biannual magazine, ASH at Work; an exclusive member e-newsletter, The Phoenix; and provide news briefs and updates to keep members and stakeholders engaged in ongoing developments. The ACAA archives research reports and industry documents going back 40 years, and offers expertise in recycling coal ash, boiler slag and flue-gas desulfurization (FGD) materials.
Every two years the ACAA co-hosts the industry's most prominent event, "The World of Coal Ash," with participants from about 30 countries.
