Dogus Meric and Jennifer Arblaster Author Sections of the ASTM Standard Guide on Analytical Methods for Sediment Corrective Action
Dogus Meric, Ph.D. (Illinois) and Jennifer Arblaster (Vermont) authored sections of the recently published American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) Standard Guide (ASTM E3163 - Selection and Application of Analytical Methods and Procedures Used During Sediment Corrective Action).
Dogus is a Project Professional based in Illinois with more than nine years of experience focused on the planning, execution, and management of remedial investigation, feasibility studies, remedial design, numerical fate and transport modeling, and environmental forensics in contaminated sediment and former manufactured gas plant (MGP) sites. His remedial design experience relates to dredging, capping, and in situ stabilization/solidification at contaminated sediment and former MGP sites. Dogus has sound experience in helping clients on complex problems, developing client-, case-, and site-specific strategies to provide low-cost and effective solutions.
Jennifer Arblaster is a Scientist based in California focused on bioaccumulation modeling, ecological and human health risk assessment, dredged material characterization, and evaluation of environmental quality criteria. She has supported multinational clients addressing environmental liability and risk issues associated with a variety of contaminated sites, including several large, multi-stakeholder contaminated sediment sites in North America and Europe, as well as several contaminated industrial sites in California. Jennifer has also contributed to several dredged material assessments for ports and harbors in the United States and Asia. In addition to her general skills in environmental investigation, analysis, and risk assessment, she has specialized experience in fugacity-based food web bioaccumulation modeling for water and sediment quality assessments, database management in Environmental Quality Information Systems (EQuIS), and Monte Carlo Simulation techniques for environmental modeling.
The ASTM Committee E50 on Environmental Assessment, Risk Management and Corrective Action, has been working toward a framework consisting of three new ASTM Sediment Corrective Action standards. The framework aims for a unified approach for addressing contaminated sediment sites that can improve guidance and consistency in areas such as risk assessment, analytical methods and techniques, corrective action objective development, and monitoring plan development and implementation. Geosyntec Consultants has been integral in the development in one of these three standards – the recently approved ASTM Standard Guide for Selection and Application of Analytical Methods and Procedures Used during Sediment Corrective Action (E3163-18). Dogus was the lead author of the Environmental Forensic Analytical Methods section and Alyssa Offutt (formerly Illinois) and Jennifer were co-lead authors with Michael Chanov (EA Engineering Inc) on the Biological Test Methods section.
