Heather Rectanus to Present on Assessment and Remediation Strategies at Integrated DNAPL Site Strategies: An ITRC Training Program
Heather Rectanus, Ph.D., P.E. (Maryland) will present on the Interstate Technology and Regulatory Council's (ITRC) updated strategies for assessing and remediating DNAPL-contaminated sites at Integrated DNAPL Site Strategies: An ITRC Training Program at the Kauffman Foundation Conference Center in Kansas City, Missouri from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on May 20, 2019.
Heather's co-presenters are David Scheer, P.G., Minnesota Pollution Control Agency and Ryan Wymore, P.E., CDM Smith.
Heather has more than 12 years of experience leading and working on a broad range of environmental research, development, and implementation projects. She specializes in remedial strategies of bioremediation and monitored natural attenuation (MNA) for Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) and underground storage tank (UST) hazardous waste sites. Heather focuses on technology transfer to integrate the state of the science with field applications, and she has worked on projects encompassing biosparging designs, biobarrier installation, MNA assessment, and dense non-aqueous phase liquid (DNAPL) management strategies.
Integrated DNAPL Site Strategies: An ITRC Training Program is presented by the Missouri Waste Control Coalition (MWCC) in conjunction with ITRC, a national leader in producing technical and regulatory guidance documents and training courses focused on the assessment and remediation of DNAPL-contaminated sites. The seminar will look at some of the updated strategies discussed in ITRC's Integrated DNAPL Site Strategies (IDSS) training program and will review the information provided in ITRC's Bioremediation of DNAPLs (BioDNAPLs) training program.
MWCC is a 400-member, not-for-profit organization that focuses on environmental issues. The statewide organization is a coalition of citizens, businesses, consultants, regulators, and others concerned with the management and disposal of generated wastes and other environmental issues.
AbstractThe first portion of the seminar will focus on IDSS, which provides a collaborative process for developing an effective and integrated strategy to manage remediation of sites contaminated with chlorinated solvents. This discussion will address updated information on DNAPL characterization and the functions of conceptual site models. The second portion of the seminar will address BioDNAPLs, as well as the selection and design of in-situ bioremediation systems for chlorinated ethene DNAPL source zones and other technical and related regulatory considerations.
