John Poulos Joins Geosyntec as Senior Consultant/Mining Engineer
John Poulos, P.E. (Colorado) recently joined Geosyntec Consultants as a Senior Consultant/Mining Engineer.
John has 43 years of experience in underground coal mining in the Western U.S. He specializes in mining engineering, mine ventilation, and project management. John has experience with both surface and underground construction at underground coal mines regulated by the Mine Safety and Health Administration. His larger projects have included construction of large coal handling facilities—high angle conveyors, reclaim facilities, along with other support facilities, maintenance shop, fuel storage facilities, and more. John has been involved with the installation of large underground conveyor systems; management of construction of portals and declining slopes along with main mine fan installations; and the ventilation at a large three-level underground coal mine.
John will support the continuing growth of Geosyntec’s mining practice. A registered professional engineer in the State of Colorado, John is passionate about the mining industry and has experience from when he was an underground coal miner to project manager, senior mining engineer, and engineering manager.
Most recently, John served as the manager of Engineering and Environmental Affairs for Mountain Coal Company, West Elk Mine, Arch Resources, Inc.—a large domestic coal mining company. He was responsible for technical support for West Elk Mine and supervised a staff of five engineers and three technicians. He coordinated the needs of the mine with regulatory agencies regarding mine plans, air and water permits, mineral leases, and other matters.
