Geosyntec Hosts Webinar on Forecasting and Managing Financial Risks Associated with Climate Change Extreme Events

Michael Berman, P.E., CHMM (Washington, D.C.), Jeremy Morris, Ph.D., P.E., and David Espinoza, Ph.D., P.E. (Maryland) will present as part of a panel on "Climate Change Extreme Events: Forecasting and Managing Financial Risks" at 12 p.m. -1:30 p.m. EDT on Wednesday June 30th, 2021.

The event is part of Geosyntec's Water and Climate Change Webinar Series.

Geosyntec has assembled a multi-faceted team of experts to discuss the response to climate change extreme events from a variety of complementary perspectives.  Panelists will focus on real world examples of how climate change risk is affecting projects and will describe both established and developing government policy, valuation frameworks and tools, and insurance/legal considerations relevant to forecasting and managing these financial risks.

Michael will discuss the observed impacts of climate change and increased precipitation events on environmental insurance claim occurrence and magnitude, while David and Jeremy will highlight the decoupled net present valuation (DNPV) methodology, which was developed by Geosyntec as an advanced tool for quantifying financial risks to infrastructure projects posed by long-term contingent liabilities such as climate change.  Joining Geosyntec on the panel will be Matt Schroeder of Akerman LLP, who brings unique perspective on environmental and natural resources litigation, Alice Hill from the Center for Climate and Security and former Senior Director for Resilience Policy on the National Security Council, and Kaveh Guilanpour from the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions (C2ES) and former Senior Advisor in the Climate Action Team of the United Nations Secretary General.
