Geosyntec Announces the Expansion of our Wilmington, North Carolina Office

Geosyntec Consultants is pleased to announce we have moved to a larger office space in Wilmington, North Carolina to accommodate additional practitioners and expanded service offerings.

The Wilmington office, Geosyntec's fourth location in North Carolina, has served the coastal Carolinas since the office opened in 2018. Since its opening, the office has supported projects involving transactional due diligence, brownfields redevelopment, vapor intrusion, environmental compliance and permitting, and contamination assessment and remediation. With the expansion, we will continue to support these markets and, with the addition of new senior practitioners, will feature master planning, siting and permitting related to stormwater, water resources, and offshore wind and other renewable energy projects.

The Wilmington office is led by Kaitlyn Rhonehouse, P.E., who has provided environmental management services to her client base of attorneys, developers, and industrial clients in North Carolina for more than five years. Kaitlyn is a Principal Engineer with more than 14 years of experience focused on the assessment and remediation of contaminated properties, property transaction environmental due diligence, compliance and permitting evaluations, brownfields negotiations and redevelopment, and vapor intrusion assessment and mitigation.

Key Practitioners Joining the Office

Mark Johnson is a Principal Consultant with more than 23 years of experience focused on transactional support, site investigation and remediation, valuation of environmental liabilities over VI work, environmental management assessment and systems, and brownfield redevelopment planning and design. He has been with Geosyntec for that past 12 years and is relocating to the expanded Wilmington office from the Washington, DC area. As part of his practice, Mark assists industrial, commercial, and attorney clients in evaluating potential future environmental remediation requirements and costs associated with industrial facilities as part of due diligence and related transaction support, as well as for insurance clients in evaluation of cost recovery claims. He has conducted and managed 1000's of Phase I and Phase II site assessments and compliance audits at industrial, manufacturing, and commercial facilities throughout the eastern and central United States, and internationally in Canada, Latin America, South America, Europe, Asia and Australia.

Michael Zylich, P.G., LSP, is a Senior Consultant with more than 27 years of experience in construction environmental site compliance and soil/groundwater management, natural resource permitting, site assessment and remediation, and regulatory compliance.  Through his career he has worked on a variety of projects in the public and private sectors. Over the past 10 years, Michael has focused on project development/due diligence, siting, permitting, and construction compliance for large scale capital electric transmission and substation and renewable energy projects.  His environmental permitting skills include natural resource planning and Local, State and Federal regulatory permitting for electric and gas transmission and distribution, stormwater, groundwater and solid waste landfill projects.  Michael's environmental site remediation experience includes emergency response activities, comprehensive site assessment investigations, site remediation operations including numerous low carbon footprint green remediation projects. He also has regulatory compliance skills including compliance audits, preparations of facility compliance plans and inspections, storm water pollution prevention plans, and spill prevention, control and countermeasures plans. Through his career, Michael has established strong working relationships with regulatory agencies which allows him to collaborate to develop innovative approaches to meet project needs.

Alessandra Braswell, Ph.D., P.E., is a Water Resources Engineer focused on water resources and environmental engineering. She has been with Geosyntec for more than two years and is relocating to the expanded Wilmington office from Raleigh, North Carolina. Alessandra specializes in urban stormwater management, green infrastructure, and stormwater master planning. Her experience includes development of watershed-level water management strategies for coastal resiliency; planning, design, and permitting of more than 100 stormwater control measures for public and private land development projects; National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permitting compliance; hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) modeling for flood control; sedimentation analyses; green infrastructure and low impact development design; expert witness support to evaluate compliance with stormwater management regulations; erosion and sediment control design for linear construction projects; and development of stormwater ordinances and other technical documents.
