Geosyntec to Have Strong Presence at the Florida Chapter of the Solid Waste Association of North America

Jill Gaffigan, Sarah Gustitus-Graham, and Marc Rogoff will present at the Solid Waste Association of North America, Florida Branch (SWANA FL) 2022 Winter Conference at the Safety Harbor Resort and Spa in Safety Harbor, Florida on February 20 through 22, 2022.

Jill Gaffigan and Sarah Gustitus-Graham will give a presentation entitled "Meeting Florida's Waste Diversion Goal: Lessons from States in Dire Straits" on February 21 at 10:30 EST. Marc Rogoff will also participate in the session. In addition, Marc will moderate "Florida Solid Waste Collection Issues in the Post Pandemic World" on February 22 at 9:00 a.m. EST.

Jill Gaffigan is a Senior Consultant and Environmental Economist based in Georgia with more than 25 years of experience focused on solid waste advisory. Jill assists clients with complex solid waste management issues, waste reduction, recycling, beneficial reuse, and the sustainable disposal of domestic and international solid waste streams and industrial by-products. She advises clients on conventional and renewable waste systems, issues surrounding waste technologies, the effects of supply chain management, operational efficiency, the intensity and characterization of waste production, risk management and performance frameworks.

Sarah Gustitus-Graham, E.I., Ph.D., is a Senior Staff Professional who provides engineering and advisory support to municipalities and private entities. She takes a holistic approach to waste management, engaging in engineering, planning, and operational projects. Her experience includes landfill design, hydrologic and geotechnical investigations, bench-scale and modeling studies of liner and cover systems, landfill gas management, waste composition studies, and cost benefit analyses.

Marc Rogoff, Ph.D, is a Senior Consultant based in Florida with more than 38 years of professional experience focused on solid waste management as a public agency manager and consultant. He has managed more than 350 consulting assignments across the United States on all facets of solid waste management including waste collection studies, facility feasibility assessments, facility site selection, property acquisition, environmental permitting, operation plan development, solid waste facility benchmarking; ordinance development, solid waste plans, financial assessments, rate studies and audits, development of construction procurement documents, bid and RFP evaluation, contract negotiation, and bond financings.

The theme of the SWANA FL 2022 Winter Conference is "Reconnect, Renew, Recharge." This event will address the latest developments in the solid waste industry, will serve as a networking opportunity for solid waste industry professionals, and will provide an opportunity to learn about new products and services.

Meeting Florida's Waste Diversion Goal: Lessons from States in Desperate Straits
This presentation looks comparatively at regulations, education, outreach, incentives, and technologies implemented in Florida and New England and explores the benefits and the costs of implementing – and of not implementing – significant changes to achieve waste reduction goals. Further comparisons are drawn between the measurements by which effectiveness and equity of waste reduction efforts are determined. Based on these comparisons, recommendations will be made and an interactive discussion will be fostered regarding reshaping Florida's waste reduction goal and strategies.

Florida Solid Waste Collection Issues in the Post Pandemic World: Panel
This panel discussion will focus on how the Florida solid waste collection industry is adapting following the 2020 Pandemic with panelist that represent the gamut of small and large communities, as well as private sector waste hauling and disposal.
