Geosyntec Practitioners to Present at the International Symposium on Frontiers in Offshore Geotechnics

Rodolfo Sancio Ph.D, P.E., D.GE., Logan Brant, Ph.D., P.E., and Patricia Varela, Ph.D. (Texas) will moderate and present at the Fourth International Symposium on Frontiers in Offshore Geotechnics (ISFOG 2020 in 2022). The event will be held August 28 through 30, 2022, at the AT&T Hotel and Conference Center on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin. Geosyntec is a Silver Sponsor of the event.

Rodolfo Sancio is a Senior Principal Geotechnical Engineer based in Texas with more than 20 years of experience focused on geohazard management (i.e., identification, characterization, and mitigation of geohazards), geotechnical site investigations, site development and ground improvement solutions, and foundation analyses for large industrial facilities and civil construction.

Logan Brant is a Principal Engineer based in Texas with more than 14 years of professional experience focused on geotechnical engineering. Logan has worked on numerous offshore, nearshore, and onshore projects, for which he has provided on-site inspection and client technical representation services as well as office-based engineering and design services.

Patricia Varela is a Professional Consultant based in Texas. She uses geological and geotechnical field surveying techniques to help clients construct subway tunnels, highways, dams, foundations, and buildings. She routinely estimates soil properties, designs foundations and slope retaining walls, analyzes structural geologic deformation evidence, conducts geophysical interpretation, and maps geohazards.

The fourth ISFOG event will be managed by the Geo-Institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Deep Foundations Institute (DFI). The event provides a forum for practitioners and academics to share solutions and new ideas that address the dynamic challenges of working in offshore design and installation. ISFOG 2020 (in 2022) will highlight emerging technologies related to data science and will emphasize offshore renewables development in the U.S. and around the world.

The Geo-Institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers includes engineers, scientists, technologists, students, and organizations in the geo-industry. The organization combines the talents and perspectives of its members to enhance their careers and the field as a whole through conferences, journals, committees and task forces, awards, networking, and leadership on emerging issues.

DFI is an international association of contractors, engineers, manufacturers, suppliers, academics, and owners in the deep foundations industry. The organization works to create a common vision for continual improvement in the planning, design, and construction of deep foundations and excavations by offering its members opportunities for networking, education, communication, and collaboration.

Geosyntec Participation

Rodolfo and Logan will present "Cyclic Response of an East African Marine Clay" at 11:35 a.m. CDT on Wednesday.

Rodolfo will also present "CPT Correlations for Estimating Undrained Shear Strength of Marine Clay Offshore East Africa," which he coauthored with Geosyntec's Ali Ebrahimi, at 11:15 a.m. CDT on August 31. At 1:45 p.m. CDT the same day, he and Xiaoyan Long will moderate "Geohazards and Integrated Studies II."

In addition, Rodolfo served on the organizing committee for this year's event.

In addition to his paper with Rodolfo, Logan will present "An Assessment of the Overconsolidation and Post-Sedimentation Structure of Marine Clay from Offshore Northern Mozambique" at 2:35 p.m. CDT on August 31. He will moderate "Soils Behavior and Modelling" at 10:45 a.m. CDT on August 29.

Patricia will moderate "Data Science, Risk, and Reliability" at 10:45 a.m. CDT on August 31.
