Juan Pestana to Present at the Trends in Coastal and Offshore Geotechnical Infrastructure Seminar at Tufts University

Juan Pestana, Sc.D., P.E. (Massachusetts), will present "Challenges for Flood Protection in River and Coastal Communities considering Climate Change" at the Trends in Coastal and Offshore Geotechnical Infrastructure seminar hosted by Tufts University at the Tufts University Robinson Auditorium at 9:50 a.m. on January 28.

Before joining Geosyntec, Juan spent 23 years as a professor in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at the University of California at Berkeley where he taught and conducted research in computational geomechanics, geotechnical engineering, and geotechnical earthquake and offshore engineering. He has authored or coauthored more than 150 research publications, and his research awards include the National Science Foundation CAREER award on modeling cyclic behavior of cohesionless soils, the ASCE Arthur Casagrande Award for contributions to constitutive modeling of soil behavior, the ASCE Walter L. Huber Civil Engineering Research Prize for contributions to constitutive and numerical modeling in geotechnical engineering, and the Shamsher Prakash Research Prize for significant contributions to geotechnical earthquake engineering.

The Tufts University Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) educates civil and environmental engineering students, helping them become leaders who can solve the most important societal problems of the twenty-first century. Technically rigorous and broad in scope, the programs focus on the interactions between the natural and built environments. CEE programs make extensive use of information technology to manage complex systems and to integrate the teaching, research, and design components of engineering education. The program links engineering disciplines including environmental, geosystems, and chemical engineering, as well as well as other fields of study, including architecture, earth and ocean sciences, chemistry, and environmental policy.
