Ben Martich is a Principal Scientist based in Alaska with more than 20 years of professional experience focused in the areas of site characterization, conceptual site model development, and vapor intrusion assessment.


He helps clients using advanced and innovative investigative tools and technologies to understand and refine conceptual site models and evaluate contaminant fate and transport. Alaskan clients recognize his expertise in the investigation of complex sites with recalcitrant compounds and characterizing exposure pathways. Ben and his team have pioneered innovative digital data tools to promote data integrity and quality when performing remote Alaskan work.

For more than 15 years, Ben has been a leader in Alaska for the assessment of the vapor intrusion pathway. He is at the forefront with the evolving standards of practice for assessment and mitigation of the vapor intrusion pathway. He has consulted with state regulatory bodies in the Mountain West and Pacific Northwest to bring the state of the science to guidance. He was a contributing member of the Interstate Technology and Regulatory Council (ITRC) Petroleum Vapor Intrusion Team responsible for issuing Petroleum Vapor Intrusion: Fundamental of Screening, Investigation, and Management (2014). He continues in this role as an ITRC internet-based instructor for the guidance document.
