Berend Jan Velderman is a Senior Consultant based in Ontario with more than 30 years of experience in a variety of environmental projects including assessment and remediation of contaminated sites, communal well water supply and rural servicing, well head protection, landfill sites, manufacturing sites, municipal infrastructure, and site development.
Berend assists organizations with their environmental initiatives as project manager and director for site assessment and remedial implementation projects for clients in Canada, the United States, Australia, Europe, and Asia.
As a consultant, Berend has provided technical and strategic project direction for environmental components of municipal projects including infrastructure; groundwater supply; and development for landfill sites; manufacturing sites; and retail fuel sites. He assists clients with strategic solutions to complex problems and innovative solutions to environmental challenges. He has supported construction projects as a hydrogeologist (such as the Kingston Third Crossing preliminary bridge design, sewer tunnels and components of the City of Ottawa Light Rail projects). As an isotope geochemist he has used his expertise to support the evaluation of water supplies, contaminant sources and source water protection.
To advance the state of the practice, Berend serves as a director at the Canadian Brownfields Association. Contributing to a successful brownfield redevelopment is one of his passions and strengths. He has regularly written and presented about brownfield redevelopment and sustainable remediation.
