Sean Ragain, R.G.

Sean Ragain is a Senior Principal Geologist based in Oregon with more than 25 years of experience focused on providing hydrogeologic and environmental consulting services to both private industry clients and governmental agencies. Sean leads soil and groundwater characterization studies under both the federal CERCLA and RCRA and State programs throughout the western United States.

He also manages the closure and reuse of contaminated properties formerly used in aerospace, forest products, agricultural, chemical, manufacturing and storage, and other industries. He routinely provides technical support and analyses to attorneys on complex environmental and groundwater issues related to property development, insurance cost recovery, and land use planning. He manages the design and implementation of a wide range of remediation systems utilizing a variety of cleanup technologies for groundwater and soil. Sean actively consults on projects throughout the western U.S. from California to Alaska and the Hawaiian Islands. He has extensive experience in the management of remote projects ranging from rural Alaska, Midway Atoll to the high desert.

Representative of his completed and ongoing assignments, Sean provided environmental consulting services to a west coast tug and barge company and to their outside counsel on matters related to their responsible party status in the Portland Harbor Superfund Site (PHSS). On behalf of his clients, he monitored restoration activities performed by others both within the PHSS boundary and at sites proximate to his clients' two sites of interest. Specific technical activities included the performance of a contributing source investigation identifying potential sources of sediment contamination near the sites and identifying potentially responsible parties that may have contributed to contamination in sediment near his clients' sites. He also developed conceptual site models for both sites to evaluate if, and to what extent, contaminants can migrate from the sites to the Willamette River.

In addition to his consulting practice, Sean routinely presents his environmental and water resources restoration work in peer reviewed journals and at technical conferences across the United States. He is a member of the Association of Groundwater Scientists and Engineers.
