Geosyntec's nationally recognized geotechnical and geological engineering practitioners specialize in developing engineering projects and services that enable the most efficient use of geotechnically challenging sites through the application of advanced technologies and proven practice leadership.

Geotechnical Infrastructure and Foundation Engineering

Our geotechnical infrastructure and foundation practitioners focus on difficult and challenging sites where the development of dependable and cost-effective foundations is critical to the success of the project. Geosyntec's specialized foundations and other subsurface structures are constructed to withstand potential geohazards, respond to increasingly unfavorable conditions, and to safely and adequately support the built environment.

Geohazard Response and Mitigation

Geosyntec provides practical engineering solutions to challenging projects and sites where geohazards are present, including seismic events, landslides, and other geographical and topographical hazards. We assist state and local agencies in evaluating the effectiveness of current building codes; limiting the effects of seismic events on private property and community infrastructure; forecasting and managing potential losses from geohazards to minimize their social, environmental, and economic impacts; and aid project planners in protecting properties and their investments from foundation risks.

Dams, Dikes, Reservoirs, Levees, and Conveyance Systems

Utilizing our expertise in geotechnical and geoenvironmental foundation engineering, water resources management, and environmental management, Geosyntec provides a full range of innovative services for new and existing dams, dikes, reservoirs, levees, and conveyance systems. Our practitioners respond to unique technical and environmental challenges facing federal, state, municipal, industrial, and private owners and operators to create site-specific solutions that are efficient, cost effective, and enduring.

Advancing the State of the Practice

We advance the state of the practice through our collaboration in applied research and development with leading universities on topics such as stresses and strains on geosynthetics during seismic events, site response analysis, and seismic design of municipal solid waste landfills and as active contributors and developers of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD) Specifications for bridge substructures including foundations and retaining wall systems.

Many of our senior practitioners have authored technical design and construction manuals for the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) focused on foundation support systems, earth retaining systems, and earthquake engineering, as well as more than fifteen guidance documents on design approaches to avoid or mitigate the potential impacts of geohazards in the built environment for state and federal environmental agencies, state and federal transportation agencies, and the U.S. Department of Defense agencies.

Geosyntec practitioners are consultants for state-of-the-practice design applications, geotechnical training instructors for the National Highway Institute (NHI) and the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), and also provide technical training analysis to state departments of transportation and contractors. Several of our practitioners are recipients of the ASCE's highest awards for advancing the state of the practice in geoengineering.
