Rainwater and Stormwater Harvesting

Rainwater harvesting refers to the collection, pre-treatment, storage, and use of rain and stormwater utilizing any number of methods, systems, and integrated infrastructure.

While practiced in many forms for centuries, use of advanced systems for rainwater harvesting have resurged around the world as water supplies become more precious and communities struggle with the control of immense quantities of stormwater runoff from the urban environment.

The type and design of Geosyntec's rainwater harvesting systems vary primarily on the basis of project objectives and site geometry. Rainwater may be collected from building roofs and paved or landscaped surfaces using several variations of collection, pre-treatment, storage, and water use systems.

Among our innovative solutions is an advanced controller, known as OptiRTC, that receives Internet-based weather forecasts and automatically empties rainwater cisterns in advance of storm events, thus maximizing storage capacity before rainfall begins.

Utilizing OptiRTC, rainwater harvesting systems provide the dual benefits of water conservation and stormwater management through real-time control of rainwater storage. This feature is particularly beneficial in cities with combined sewer systems to reduce combined sewer overflows or at facilities that must provide stormwater detention.
